Following Jesus

To follow Jesus means more than simply acknowledging Him; it means surrendering our lives, aligning with His priorities, and walking as His disciples daily.

  • Discipleship, not just decision: In the Gospels, Jesus called people to “follow me” (Matthew 4:19), not merely believe a proposition. True faith involves a journey of growth—learning His ways, obeying His commands, and being conformed to His character (Romans 8:29).
  • Imitating Christ: Following Jesus means modeling His humility, servanthood, compassion, truth, forgiveness, and obedience to the Father (Philippians 2:5–11; John 13:34–35).
  • Surrender and submission: We daily say, “Not my will but Yours” (Luke 22:42). Followers of Christ take up their cross (Luke 9:23) and deny self in pursuit of His kingdom.
  • Obedience birthed from love: Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (John 14:15). True discipleship is motivated by love, not legalism.
  • Mission and multiplication: Following Jesus is not inward only; He commissions us to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19–20). As we follow, we go, serve, proclaim, baptize, teach others to obey.

By centering life around following Christ, our church desires to be a community of genuine disciples, not mere consumers of religion.
